Nearing the end of our five-day camping trip, Melanie and I were traversing through the south side of Moab, working our way home. We had some spare time, so we went off course and decided to off-road a bit. There are little to no trees for miles around. Iron-rich rocks that have faded in color make up a sea of rugged terrain and sandy dunes. After 30 minutes of intense off-roading, we decided to pick up our backpacks and hike the rest of the trail. The silence brings a strange chill; all you hear are our footsteps on the dirt and our heavy breathing. We walked with no end in sight towards tranquility for over an hour. Thirsty and hungry, we went over one final cliff to get a good view while we rest. As we ascended the rocky cliff, a lonely tree appeared. To be honest, it was more of an oversized shrub, but I didn't care. We broke right underneath it and enjoyed our dry food. Tranquility is like a gentle breeze, soothing the soul and bringing inner peace. After a 20-minute intermission, we packed up our belongings and started walking back from where we came. Right before I descended the cliff, I turned back and captured the Lonely Tree into my collection.
